father holding child
uneven crossing pavement
no fog visible
see gulls, dirty doves, Frenchies
and too often expecting us.

but she doesn’t want his hand
trying to get free;
yet mom takes control
she jabs her hand out forcefully
and the girl takes it.
outside, watching intently
waiting waiting like a shepherd;
I can’t wait forever—let’s see.
